Q – Really? I can get money for Solar Energy production and the RECs generated by this? A – Yes. You must apply and have your application accepted. Once accepted you will receive a contract which you sign and return to us. Once you receive a signed contract back from us, you will then be accepted into the coop. We will then give you instructions on how to attest for your power production which will allow us to pay you for your RECs.
Q – So, what are RECS or Green Tags? A – RECs (also known as Green Tags) are the environmental attributes of a renewable energy system, including the ability to offset greenhouse gas production. RECs/Greentags are now a separately marketable commodity and can be sold by owners of renewable energy systems including photovoltaic and wind. This puts extra money into the pockets of wind and solar energy producers!
Q – How much money could I get? A – This changes from year due to market influences. Historically, the prices have fluctuated from 2cents per kilowatt hour all the way up to 10cents per kilowatt hour.
Q – How do I know what kind of price I can get paid for my Green Tags? A – Go to our “become a member page” and fill out the application form. This will put you on a waitlist to sign a contract with us for payment of RECs. When we are able to buy RECs from you we will contact you with details regarding the terms and prices.
To sell your RECs through the Coop your system must:
1. Be located in Oregon , Washington , Idaho , or Montana 2. Be any size up to 50 kW 3. Be a solar PV system 4. Be Grid-Tied
Q – How do I sell RECs? A – If you are interested in selling your RECs, follow the steps on the Northwest Solar Coop main page. You will need to fill out some short forms and send them to Solar Oregon. >>Click here
Q – How do I buy RECs to support more solar installations? A – If you want to support the installation of more renewable energy, you can buy RECs (or Greentags as they have termed them) directly from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation's and 3 Degrees web sites. Or you may buy 3 Degrees RECs by buying Pacificorp's Blue Sky energy.
